Musk wants Cybertruck to be the most advanced electric pickup truck ever

The Cybertruck is probably the weirdest car the Elon Musk team has dreamed of. After being unveiled in 2019, delayed due to the pandemic and global chip shortages, the pickup truck is set to go on sale in 2022. However, Tesla is using this extra time to do some upgrades as it challenges new electric pickup trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Hummer EV.

The Tesla CEO has now revealed that some upgrades that were rumored for a long time include 4-motor, four-wheel steering and even a Hummer EV-like crab mode.

Cybertruck will also get a yoke steering wheel

“Early production will be a 4-motor version, with independent, ultra-fast reaction torque control of each wheel,” Musk said.

“It will have both front and rear wheels, so not like a tank – it can drive diagonally like a crab,” he said.

Originally the car was supposed to have a tri-motor setup with a range of 800 km and $69,900 as its starting price. But now that this isn’t the first electric pick-up truck that the critically acclaimed Rivian R1T has already outdone, Tesla has decided to upgrade its specs so it can better reach the competition.
