Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that Cabinet nod to increase Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi crops It will ensure maximum remunerative price to the farmers and encourage them to sow different types of crops.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Modi approved the increase in MSP for all mandatory Rabi crops for the Rabi Marketing Season 2022-23.

Taking another big decision today in the interest of farmer brothers and sisters, the government has approved increase in MSP of all Rabi crops, Modi tweeted.

“While this will ensure maximum remunerative price for ‘Annadata’, it will also encourage them to sow different types of crops,” the Prime Minister said.

Sowing of Rabi crops starts from October, immediately after the harvesting of Kharif crops. Wheat and mustard are the main Rabi crops.

The government on Wednesday increased the MSP of wheat by Rs. 40 to Rs. 2,015 per quintal and for mustard seeds Rs. 400 to Rs. 5,050 per quintal for the current crop year to boost crop area as well as farmers’ income.

MSP is the rate at which the government buys food grains from farmers. At present, it fixes the MSP for 23 crops grown in both Kharif and Rabi seasons.

Mr Modi also lauded the cabinet’s decision to approve a Rs 10,683 crore Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the textile sector with an aim to boost domestic manufacturing and exports.

He said, “Our textile sector plays a vital role in the economy. In order to further give a boost to this sector and strengthen our effort to build an Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Cabinet today approved a PLI scheme for textiles.”

The Prime Minister said, “Through the PLI scheme in textiles, India seeks to emerge as a hub for global textile manufacturing. The PLI scheme will advance women’s empowerment and accelerate progress in aspirational districts.”
