A young Delhi woman, who was strangled with a charging cable by her boyfriend and locked in a fridge, is seen in security footage from her home close to the spot where she was murdered.
The body of Nikki Yadav, 23, was found inside a fridge at a restaurant owned by her boyfriend Sahil Gehlot’s family on Tuesday.
After leading the police to the body, 24-year-old Sahil was arrested.
Nikki Yadav was last seen in CCTV footage entering her rented house in south-west Delhi. She is the only one in the February 9 video.
Police say hours later, Sahil Gehlot, a pharma graduate, killed her.
Not far from the house, the couple fought for nearly three hours inside a car over Sahil marrying another woman.
Police said that as the fight escalated, Sahil strangulated Nikki using a charging cable. He reportedly panicked and decided to hide the body in the freezer at his family’s dhaba.
“We are going through the CCTV footage and scanning more to collect evidence and establish what happened,” a police officer said.
Nikki never knew that her live-in partner was engaged to another woman. Police sources said that he came to know a day before his marriage. Some reports say that he threatened to file a case if she married someone else. Other reports claimed that she had booked tickets to Goa and was pressuring him to accompany her.
After allegedly strangulating Nikki, Sahil went to his parents’ house just 700 meters away from where he hid her body.
The murder, which came to light on a day widely celebrated as Valentine’s Day, has similarities to the murder of Shraddha Walker last year by her boyfriend Aftab Poonawalla, who cut the body into several pieces and dismembered the parts. Separated by doing In his fridge for weeks.
The police track down Sahil after a neighbor reports Nikki missing. His family lives in Jhajjar, Haryana.
Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav said that on February 10, someone called to inform that a man had killed his girlfriend and married another woman the same day.
Police sources claim that Sahil “confessed” during his interrogation and revealed where he had hidden Nikki’s body.
Sahil’s new bride has reportedly moved back to her parents’ house.
Police said Nikki and Sahil met while preparing for the medical entrance exam and were in a live-in relationship for years.
His father Sunil Yadav has demanded death penalty for Sahil.
