Streaming service Netflix has announced that “Persuasion,” a film adaptation of author Jane Austen’s classic novel, will release on its platform on July 15.

The streaming service shared the news of the film’s release in a post on Twitter along with its official trailer.

The Netflix film tweeted, “There’s always someone who turns away. ‘Persuasion’ starring Dakota Johnson, Cosmo Jarvis and Henry Golding, based on the beloved Jane Austen novel, arrives on Netflix July 15.”

The story revolves around Anne Elliot (Johnson), a 27-year-old struggling to make ends meet when she is persuaded by family friend Lady Russell (Nikki Amuka-Bird) to find Frederick Wentworth (Jarvis). ) broke off his engagement with.

Seven years later, the two return to each other’s classroom when Anne’s family rents out their house to their sister and her husband. Anne quickly becomes trapped in a love triangle between her former fiancée and her cousin William Elliot (Golding), who will inherit the estate of her father, Walter (Richard E. Grant).

With her friends and family prompting her to be with William, Anne is forced to consider what she really wants outside of the social pressures around her.

“Persuasion” was published in 1817, six months after Austen’s death, and is considered the most mature work of the iconic author with a young heroine.

The story, like most of Austen’s works, has been adapted for the screen several times.

Acclaimed theater director Carrie Cracknell is making her feature directorial debut with the film from a screenplay by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow.

“Persuasion” is produced by Andrew Lazar, Christina Weiss Lurie with Elizabeth Cantillon, Michael Constable and David Fliegel as executive producers.
