Although Nandagavali has been “missing” from the wildlife department since January 9, 2020, and has not rendered her services to wildlife, she has held a position blocking the entry of any new vet. The crisis has deepened as two veterinarians – Dr Syed Bilal Ali and Dr Mayur Kate – who worked with the Transit Treatment Center (TTC), Seminary Hills, and were part of every wildlife rescue operation or postmortem of Schedule I animals, has left TTC. Nandagawali did not respond to repeated calls by TOI. He didn’t even respond to SMS. Raut’s office confirmed that the veterinarian is acting as OSD to the minister.
