The government media advisory body got a new name, the Central Bureau of Communications. The aim is ‘uniformity’

New Delhi: The Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC) – the advisory body on media strategy under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) – will now be known as the Central Bureau of Communications following a gazette notification issued on Tuesday.

According to a source in the I&B ministry, the change was made with an aim to “maintain uniformity and streamline” the terminology of the state and central divisions.

“The BOCs at various levels will be named ‘Central Bureau of Communications’ (CBC) at the headquarters level,” said the notification, signed by C. Senthil Rajan, Joint Secretary, Information and Broadcasting.

From now on, the regional, regional and regional offices will have ‘CBC’ attached to their name as prefix next to the name of the state and region.

“It was necessary to maintain uniformity and streamline the nomenclature, but the rest of the structure and set-up will remain the same,” a source in the I&B ministry told ThePrint.

“Earlier, we had different names for state and central divisions and hence, it was necessary to reorganize it. We have told everything in the notification. There is no major implication of this change,” said the source.

according to this WebsiteThe department was established in December 2017 to provide “360 degree communication solutions” to Ministries, Departments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Autonomous Bodies. It was created by integrating Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity, Directorate of Field Publicity and Song and Drama Division.

With 23 regional outreach bureaus and 148 field outreach bureaus, the functions of the CBC include dissemination of information about government policies and programs through print, television, and digital media.
