Likely to be called the Cairns, the Kia KY is expected to sport an SUV-like design. It will share its underpinnings with the Seltos compact SUV. The upcoming model will be located below CARNIVAL In the model line-up of the South Korean carmaker. Ahead of its official debut, the first interior images of the car have surfaced online. While we don’t get a clear look at the cabin, the images indicate that the model will be quite feature-packed.

As can be seen in the pictures, the car is equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system, which suggests that it could be a mid-variant. We also get to see elements like digital instrument cluster, cruise control, ambient lighting, Seltos-sourced steering wheel and automatic climate control. Kia’s next offering is likely to come in 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. While borrowing design cues from the seven-seater compact SUV, the Seltos is likely to sport a longer wheelbase.

As for the mechanicals, the upcoming Kia KY is likely to come in both petrol and diesel options, which can be borrowed from Seltos, It will likely come with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel options. In the Seltos, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol mill is good for 113 bhp and 144 Nm, while the 1.5-litre oil burner makes 113 bhp and 250 Nm. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual as standard along with optional CVT (1.5L petrol) and 6-speed AT (1.5L diesel).

The production version of the Kia KY will arrive in 2022, but an exact launch timeline is yet to be announced. Once launched, the Kia KY will compete against Toyota Innova Crysta, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Mahindra XUV700.
