Misal is a spicy savory curry made from moth beans, with lots of generous spices, onion, garlic, ginger and chili. It is then topped with boiled potatoes, sev, chopped onions, coriander leaves, green chillies, lemon juice and served with butter-toasted pav. Misal Pav is a popular breakfast food in the region. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that misal pav defines comfort for almost every Maharashtrian. So recently when ‘Comfort’ was criticized many people came together and reacted strongly to it. Let me tell you the story from the beginning.
A person identified as Bodhisattva Majumdar recently shared a post on Twitter and expressed his feelings Maharashtrian Staple Example pav. He wrote, “How is misal pav even a dish. It is just namkeen which accidentally fell on very oily ghoghani.”

In no time, the post caught the attention of the internet and people started criticizing her in the comment section. One comment read, “You are blasphemy in Mumbai.” Another person said, “You must try Misal at any of these two restaurants – 1. Aswad – Dadar (Shivaji Park) 2. Amantran – Thane (West) (Don’t try the Mamledar franchise that you get everywhere can be found).” A third comment read, “Wait till you have usal pavOne person further wrote, “But it is very funny.”
However, some echoed the Bodhisattva and said, “This too is a badly made gnome.” Another person said, “Yes of course!!! I loved the bhajji pav here but what is missal pav too!!?”
