Meteorologists and scientists have warned of widespread rain in the next five days amid floods in Bengaluru after incessant rains over the past weeks. Flagging off heavy rains over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, the Meteorological Department has predicted rain in South Interior Karnataka in the next two days.

Meteorological Department scientist Dr Geeta Agnihotri was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “Extensive rain for the next five days over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, followed by three days of widespread rain over South Interior Karnataka in the next two days.” as saying.

The scientist further said that a yellow alert was issued on Monday. He said, “Today’s rain reports for Bengaluru are: Electronic City-8cm, City Office-4cm, International Airport-9.6mm and HAL Airport-5cm. Heavy rain in Bengaluru for next 2-3 days. Yellow Alert was issued for today.”

The IT capital is in the grip of heavy rains and severe floods, causing severe waterlogging. In fact, reports suggest that IT corridors have been badly affected and employees were forced to travel and commute on tractors.

“Our work is being affected. We are waiting to drop the tractor for Rs 50,” news agency ANI quoted an employee as saying.

Following the complaint from IT officials, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai assured that the competent authorities would talk to the IT staff and solve their problems due to waterlogging.

On Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain, thunder and lightning in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on September 8 and 9. Meanwhile, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh will see ‘very heavy rainfall’. Between September 6 and September 9.
