Form of words:

Nowshera: India must enhance its military capabilities to suit the changing world and modes of warfare, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday and added that modern border infrastructure has been created to enhance connectivity and deployment of troops.

Modi made the remarks while addressing soldiers on the occasion of Diwali in Nowshera sector of Rajouri, a border district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister appreciated the role played by the brigade in the surgical strikes here. India conducted surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) on September 29, 2016 as a response to the terrorist attack on an army base in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

Modi said that after the surgical strike, there were many attempts to spread terrorism here but they were given a befitting reply.

The Prime Minister said that India should increase its military capability in line with the changing world and the modus operandi of war.

He said connectivity has improved in the border areas – from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, from Jaisalmer to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Prime Minister said that borders and coastal areas lacking normal connectivity now have roads and optical fiber, and this increases deployment capabilities as well as facilities for troops.

Modi also said that earlier the country had to depend mostly on imports in the defense sector, but the efforts of his government have boosted indigenous capabilities.

He appreciated the courage of the soldiers and said that their ability and strength has ensured peace and security for the country.

“I want to spend Diwali with family members, so I join you in this festival,” he said.

Since taking over as prime minister, Modi has made it a point to meet soldiers in the border area on Diwali, starting with a visit to Siachen in 2014.

Official sources shared their photographs at an army post in Nowshera.

Army Chief General MM Naravane on Wednesday conducted an aerial reconnaissance of forward areas including Rajouri and was briefed about the prevailing security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu region.

Army operation is going on against terrorists from the forest belt in Poonch-Rajouri area. This has been the longest such operation in recent times and on Thursday it entered its 26th day.

Meanwhile, when Modi left his residence in the morning, there were minimal security arrangements and no traffic lanes were deployed to avoid any inconvenience, official sources said.
