Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses members of the Indian community in Berlin, Germany

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed members of the Indian community at the theater at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, Germany. She is currently on the first leg of her three-nation Europe tour which will also take her to Denmark and France. The visit comes amid the Ukraine crisis, which has united much of Europe against Russia. Modi began his address by saying that he is neither in the German capital to talk about himself nor the Modi government. In his speech, the PM said that the people of India have ended the politically unstable environment of the last three decades at the press of a button.

Here are the PM’s top quotes:

  • I want to talk to you about the capabilities of crores of Indians and glorify them. When I talk about crores of Indians, it includes not only the people living there but also the people living here.
  • The people of India put an end to the politically unstable environment of the last three decades at the press of a button. After 30 years, a government with an absolute majority was elected in 2014 and the people of India further strengthened the government in 2019.
  • We are celebrating 75 years of independence this year. I am the first prime minister who was born in independent India. At the time of completion of 100 years of independence, India will be at the peak, India is taking firm step by step and is moving fast towards that goal.
  • Reform requires political will. Today India is moving ahead in quality of life, quality of education and all other areas. Country, bureaucracy, government offices are same but now we are getting better results.
  • The cost of internet data in India is so low that it is unbelievable for many countries. Last year India’s share in real-time global digital payments was 40%… Now no PM will have to say that I send Re 1 from Delhi but only 15 paise reaches.
  • New India does not think of a secure future alone. It takes risks, it innovates, it incubates. I remember around 2014 there were only 200-400 startups in our country. There are more than 68,000 startups in the country today.
  • Today, by all global standards, several dozen of these startups have become unicorns. It is not just limited to unicorns, today I can proudly say that in my country many unicorns are also becoming Decacorns. This means they are crossing USD 10 billion level.
  • Today the government is not chasing the innovators, but pushing them forward with enthusiasm. If you want to innovate in the geospatial sector, or create new types of drones or rockets or satellites – today India offers the most open and nurturing environment for it.
  • Earlier there was one nation but two constitutions. It took seven decades to implement One Nation and One Constitution. It has just been implemented.
