Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday boarded a public bus in Chennai to enjoy a ride as his government completed one year.
According to an ANI report, Stalin traveled briefly in a government bus to inspect the state of public transport and spoke to passengers and conductors on one year of his government and bus facilities.
The 69-year-old DMK leader is known for his zeal to break away from the routine of a chief minister to touch base with the masses.
However, such a sight is not unique as many politicians and heads of states have boarded buses and public transport to interact with the people. Here are some examples:
PM Modi
PM Narendra Modi has often been seen taking a metro ride in the national capital and other states. Recently in March this year, the Prime Minister traveled in a Metro train in Maharashtra’s Pune and appealed to the affluent to use mass transport systems like the Metro.
In 2019, Modi traveled from Khan Market station in the Delhi Metro to an ISKCON temple event in South Delhi. In a short video of the trip released by news agency ANI, PM Modi is seen greeting people.
Naveen Patnaik
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik takes a ride on one of the buses flagging off a new fleet of 125 “Mo buses” in 2018. He boarded the bus at New Airport Square this morning to reach the State Secretariat.
Charanjit Channi
In December last year, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi himself drove a bus and led the convoy of new buses during the induction of 58 new buses in the state’s fleet.
Yogi Adityanath
In December last year, CM Yogi Adityanath took a ride in the newly inaugurated city bus service in Gorakhpur district.
Arvind Kejriwal
In 2019, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also seen riding in public buses to seek “direct feedback” from people.
