The roof of a high-rise building in Gurgaon collapses, one dead, many feared trapped

Gurgaon: Rescue teams in search of people trapped in Chintel Paradiso

Gurgaon:

One person was killed and several people are feared trapped when the roof of a residential skyscraper collapsed in Gurgaon’s Sector 109 on Thursday night. The living room in an apartment in the 18-floor Chintels Paradiso housing complex was the first to come down, causing ceilings and floors to fall straight down, news agency PTI reported.

A team of National Disaster Response Force i.e. NDRF is engaged in evacuating the trapped people. Visuals show rescuers in bright orange jackets setting up a ladder to reach the building’s upper floors.

Kaushal Kumar, a resident of the building, told ANI, “A drawing room on the sixth floor collapsed to the first floor.” The incident happened in “Tower D” of the high rise.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted that he is personally monitoring the situation.

Mr. Khattar said, “Administrative officials, along with SDRF and NDRF teams, are engaged in rescue and relief work after the unfortunate collapse of the apartment roof at Paradiso Housing Complex, Gurugram. I am personally monitoring the situation. And pray for everyone’s safety.” tweeted.

Residents said Tower D, a part of which collapsed, was built in 2018. There are three other towers in the complex. The 18-storey Tower D has a four bedroom apartment.

As reported by PTI, the housing complex management blamed the disaster on “negligence” during repairs for an “extremely unfortunate incident”, which took place around 7 pm.
