Minister Serge Gail used a helicopter seat to float in the sea.

Madagascar helicopter crash: “My time to die has not yet come,” said Madagascan minister Serge Gele, who was 12 hours at sea to reach the shore after the helicopter crashed off the island’s northeast coast on Monday. The swimmer was one of two survivors.

Gail and a fellow policeman miraculously survived the fatal accident in which at least 39 people were killed, news agency AFP quoted police chief Zafisambatra Ravovi as saying.

Ravovi said Gail, who serves as the country’s secretary of state for police, used one of the seats of the helicopter to float in the sea after the unfortunate ejected in time.

“He’s always had a flair in the game, and he’s maintained that rhythm as a minister, just like a thirty-year-old. He’s got nerves of steel,” he said.
