Cricket can often witness bizarre incidents. One such happened during the SA20 League game between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town in Centurion on Wednesday. In a video posted on Twitter by Super Sport, Pakistani anchor Zainab Abbas can be seen commentating on the match standing just outside the boundary line. Talking about the match, Sunrisers Eastern Cape chased down the target of 172 runs and won brilliantly. Sunrisers had already lost five wickets before scoring 100 runs. But Marco Jansen’s 66 off just 27 balls helped them get past the boundary.
Left-arm fast bowler Jensen hit seven sixes and three fours in his innings. His strike-rate was 244.44.
The SA20 has confirmed exciting additions to its playing format for the inaugural season starting on 10 January. The six teams will play a total of 33 matches, including three playoff matches consisting of two semi-finals and a final. Additions have been included to improve the quality of the product while maintaining the sanctity of the game.
In an innovative move to level the playing field, each captain can nominate 13 players to field before the toss. After the toss, each captain can select their final starting XI and the remaining players automatically become substitutes.
Teams would be incentivized to put in dominant performances, with the winning team being awarded four points and a bonus-point win earning five points. The bonus point will be awarded to the team that achieves a run rate of 1.25 times that of the opposition. In case of no result, both the teams will be awarded two points, while the losing team will not get any points.
