The Weeknd and Lily Rose-Depp to star in HBO series ‘The Idol’

Actor Lily Rose-Depp will appear in the upcoming HBO series “The Idol” alongside Canadian music star The Weeknd.

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, will make his acting debut with the series he will co-write and executive produce, reported Diversity.

The story follows a female pop singer who begins a romance with a mysterious L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.

The Weeknd co-created “The Idol” with famed LA nightlife entrepreneurs Reza Faheem and Sam Levinson, who won a BAFTA for their critically acclaimed HBO show “Euphoria.”

Joseph Epstein will serve as showrunner and writer on the project.

The series will be executive produced by Levinson, Tesfaye, Faheem, Epstein, Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turen, Aaron L. Gilbert of Braun Studios.

Mary Lodge will write on the show and serve as co-executive producer. Rose-Depp, the daughter of Hollywood stars Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, has starred in films such as “The King”, “Tusk”, “The Dancer” and most recently “The Voyagers”.
