Hubli: The twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad will soon have hi-tech bus stops with EV charger points, mobile charging kiosks and other facilities.
Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation is contemplating a tie-up with a Hubli-based private company to set up a bus stop.
HDMC will provide facilities up to 500 bus stops in collaboration with the company. As a pilot, a bus stop will be built at Hubli-Dharwad.
Features will include CCTV Cameras, information kiosks about local area and routes, mobile charging points, free Wi-Fi, two wheeler and four wheeler EV charging points, said to be first of its kind in the country.
The officials have started the process of identifying the land for the new hamlets. Several bus stops on the Hubli-Dharwad road have been removed since the BRTS bus service started.
Since then, people traveling between Hubli And Dharwad And elsewhere, mainly on the outskirts of the two cities, it has become difficult to find a stop to board the bus. Taking this matter seriously, HDMC Mayor Ayresh Anktegery Now hi-tech is taking initiative to set up bus stops with facilities.
According to sources, in Hubli-Dharwad, NWKRTC has around 700 official stoppages. The new stops will be in the busiest bus shelters.
Hubli-Dharwad mayor, Iresh Anchhatageri said that roads are being developed rapidly in cities and extension areas. “People are now finding it difficult to board buses in the absence of proper bus stops with shelter. Considering the public demand and requests from the transport department to set up bus stops in the twin cities, we have decided to set up bus stops involving private companies,” he said.
“We are not going to invest in bus stops. Presently the process of issuing work order is going on. On the basis of testing, two locations have been identified. One is in Dharwad near Shivaji Statue circle and the other is on Gokul road. Later looking at the feasibility and other aspects, the matter will be brought up in the general body and further action will be initiated after discussion with the corporators,” he said.
NWKRTC MD Bharat S said that in view of the rush movement through buses and other factors, officials have been asked to prepare a list of places where bus stops are needed. He said that the final list would be given to HDMC after discussing with the police on traffic movement and other aspects.
