There’s a bug in the Google Messages app that’s causing battery drain and other issues

A new bug in Google Messages could leave your camera in the background, draining your battery quickly and causing your device to overheat.

According to 9To5Google, within the Google Messages app, there’s an easy way to quickly snap a photo and quickly attach it to a message and send it to a friend.

To attach images from your gallery, there’s also a live feed from your camera that can either take an instant snapshot from that thumbnail view or you can expand it for a better view.

In a recent update to the Google Messages app, a bug in the app sometimes left this camera feed running even when the screen isn’t on, including when Messages is in the background.

The report mentions that at this point in time the easiest way to stop the problem is to close the app from Recent View.

More broadly, if you don’t use the Google Messages viewfinder, the easiest way to completely prevent this problem is to deny the app’s permission to use your phone’s camera.

To do this on Pixel phones, touch and hold the Messages app icon in your launcher and tap the info icon.

This should take you to the Settings app, where you can tap “Permissions” to manage what Google Messages is allowed to do.
