This man shared his grandfather’s 1931 British Indian passport, the internet was stunned

Passport is almost 92 years old.

Most of us have read about India’s history in books, school textbooks and other web archives, and our grandparents may have seen it firsthand. However, documents and artifacts from that era are now considered a prized possession that provide insight into our past. An internet user recently shared his grandfather’s British Indian passport, which is almost 92 years old and has left many users on the internet baffled.

Anshuman Singh said on Twitter that his grandfather must have been around 31 years old when he was issued a passport in Lahore, which is now part of Pakistan. He wrote, “My grandfather’s “British Indian passport”, issued in Lahore in 1931. He would have been 31 then.” The passport belonged to the Punjab Rai (as specified by the user) and was valid only in the Kenya Colony and India until the year 1936. The photographs also revealed that the passport had the photograph of the holder and his signature in Urdu.

One page of the passport states, “This is to request and requisition in the name of the Viceroy and Governor-General of India all to whom it may concern that the bearer may travel freely without hindrance or hindrance.” let him pass, and render him every aid and security which he may require” along with the seal of the then Punjab Government.

Since being shared, the post has been viewed over a lakh times and has garnered over a thousand likes. Many labeled it as a “prized possession” and a “treasure”. Some even said that the passport deserves a place in a museum.
