Irula tribe extracting snake venom for medicinal purposes

Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Supriya Sahu has shared such a video on her social media, which will leave you goosebumps. We all know that the bite of a venomous snake can be fatal. Ms Sahu shared a video showing snake venom being extracted and how it can be used as an antidote. The video features members of the Irula tribe, an ethnic group in Tamil Nadu, who specialize in extracting snake venom. The tribe has obtained special permission from the government to extract snake venom and use it for medicinal purposes. The video shows a man carefully handling a snake and extracting venom into a small container.

Along with the video, Ms Sahu wrote a long caption explaining the process. “It is nothing short of fascinating to watch the Irula tribe extract snake venom from snakes like cobras, Russell’s vipers, kraits, etc. without harming them. The venom is sold to pharma companies to make anti snake venom. Established in 1978, the Irula Snake Catcher Society has 300 members.

Recently, in a hair-raising incident, a woman was recently seen resting on a cot while a cobra climbed onto her back.
