The doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were to play a major role in the recently concluded Thomas Cup as both won the gold medal for the first time by the Indian team. Obviously, congratulatory messages were pouring in from across the country, but what stood out was that of Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, who responded to a post on Twitter lauding the team’s achievement. It read, “This marks the beginning of an era of Indian dominance in the sport; A game that has always been loved and played in our country. I grew up reading about legends like Thomas Cup and Indonesia’s Rudy Hartono, who dominated it. Today we swept Indonesia… Apna time has come.”

However, 23-year-old shuttler Chirag Shetty replied, “Thank you sir! I booked an XUV700 recently, hope I get it soon!”

Mahindra replied twice, the first read, “Since this makes the XUV7OO the Choice of Champions, we will have to work extra hard to get it to reach ASAP. @vijaynakra (Vijay Nakhra) I hope you see it!
