Three arrested for murder of youth near Ernakulam South Overbridge

Three youths from the city were arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of a youth who was stabbed to death near the Ernakulam South Overbridge in the early hours of Sunday.

Shyam, a resident of Warpuzha, was stabbed to death, while his friend Arun Antony was seriously injured in the attack.

Ernakulam North police arrested 30-year-old Harshad, 38-year-old Sudhir and 5-year-old Thomas from Panangad from Nettoor in connection with the incident.

Ernakulam DCP (Law and Order) S Sasidharan told media persons that the arrests were made on the basis of CCTV footage, call records and intelligence gathered by the police.

“The accused youths were in an inebriated state and an argument broke out. Harshad is said to have carried out the attack. Shyam died due to multiple injuries including a deep chest injury.

Pujari arrested under POCSO Act

The Varapuzha police on Sunday arrested a church priest under the provisions of the POCSO Act on the basis of a complaint that he sexually assaulted a young boy from his church. Father Joseph Kodian, 62, who was the pastor of St. Thomas Church, Adampadam, was later remanded to judicial custody. The 11-year-old boy had gone to his house to deliver ready-made food to him when the priest allegedly sexually assaulted him on August 11. He reported the matter to his parents. Police said that the police received the complaint on Saturday, following which Pujari was arrested on Sunday.
