Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that the Assembly session will be convened for three days from May 22, during which the newly elected legislators will be sworn in and the new speaker will be elected.

Mr Siddaramaiah was sworn in as chief minister for a second term, along with state Congress president DK Shivakumar as deputy chief minister, and eight legislators today as ministers, exactly a week after the party’s assembly elections in Karnataka.

“We are calling the assembly session for three days – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we are requesting the governor, as the new assembly has to be constituted before May 24. Requesting senior most MLA RV Deshpande to be made pro tem speaker Has been done.” To administer the oath to the MLAs,” Siddaramaiah said.

Talking to reporters after presiding over the first cabinet meeting today after taking oath as Chief Minister, he said that the new assembly speaker will be elected during the session.
