Three workers were killed and four others were injured in an explosion on Wednesday at Shree Solai Fireworks near Sattur under Ezhairampannai police station area.
Police have identified the deceased as Karuppasamy, Senthil and Kasi. The injured have been admitted to government hospitals in Sattur and Kovilpatti.
The explosion took place at around 7.40 am due to friction while handling the chemicals, an official said. Unit’s licensee A. Poomari had refurbished it in 2020, and the unit had a valid license to manufacture firecrackers till March 2022.
This is the second fireworks accident in Virudhunagar district after January 1. Earlier, five workers were killed and seven were injured. Report of accident in RKVM fireworks Near Vatrap on January 1.
