He said that neutral El Niño is likely to prevail over the equatorial Pacific in May and most of the weather models are indicating warming of the monsoon region from May.

It is said that El Nino or the warming of the oceanic Pacific Ocean has an effect on the monsoon in India. In addition, other factors such as sea surface (also known as the Indian Ocean dipole) temperature in the Indian Ocean tend to influence weather.

Mohapatra said that the prevailing neutral eye condition in the Indian Ocean is appraised to be positive in the times to come. He pointed out that the positive Indian Ocean is known to favor Indian views in many circumstances and help in mitigating the effects of El Nino.
