Thyagaraj Stadium case: AAP government directed to keep sports facilities open till 10 pm

The Delhi government on Thursday made a new rule, due to which all government facilities will remain open for the players till 10 pm. The directions came after a media report that Thyagaraj Stadium was being closed earlier than normal for sporting activities so that an IAS officer could take his dog to the facility.

Tagging the report, Sisodia said in a tweet: “News has brought to our notice that some sports facilities are being closed early, causing inconvenience to players to play till late nights. CM @ArvindKejriwal It has been directed that all sports facilities of the Delhi government will remain closed. Open for sportspersons till 10 pm.”

Athletes and coaches said the stadium guards have forced them to finish training by 7 pm as the IAS officer has to walk his dog on the campus. Delhi’s Principal Revenue Secretary Sanjeev Khirwar has been accused of taking his dog inside the sports complex at around 7.30 pm.

However, the official has denied this claim. The coach claimed that they used to train the athletes till 8-8:30 pm, but now they have been asked to leave the field by 7 pm so that the IAS officers can walk their dogs on the ground.

As a result of the practice disruption, many athletes have started training at the Sports Authority of India’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
