A man in Chennai was arrested for stealing a laptop from medical college hostels after his former partner, a medical student, broke up with him. The 25-year-old allegedly did this as an “act of revenge” against the woman he was dating. H1 Washermanpet Police received a complaint from Ruthresh, a second year medical student at Stanley Medical College Hospital, after his laptop was damaged. Theft from his hostel room, Indian Express reports. After registering the case, the police scanned the CCTV footage from around the hostel. The accused was seen riding from the hostel in an autorickshaw with a bag in hand, after which he was tracked and arrested in Semenchery, Tamil Selvan had stolen 31 high-end laptops from around the hostel and were selling them to sell in the black market .
Selvan, who had fake identity cards, had conducted similar operations in medical colleges in several cities like Kerala, Delhi and Gujarat. He has been remanded and sent to 15 days judicial custody. S Yamuna, an inspector at Washermanpet police station, told indianexpress.com that Selvan cited breaking up with his girlfriend as his motive for stealing laptops from medical colleges. However, the police believe that this cannot be the only reason for his crimes.
According to Yamuna, Selvan was misled from a young age, having lost both his parents at that time. He has maintained his habit of stealing for many years, when he was very young, and already had pending cases against him.
