Tiktok launches new feature, only 18+ can watch you live

New Delhi: Chinese short-video making app TikTok is reportedly restricting live streams to viewers aged 18 and above, to prevent minors from encountering adult content. As per a TechCrunch report, the new setting for users is currently in limited testing with select users. Select users in the trial period can toggle the “Mature Theme” button to limit their live streaming to adults only.

The platform said that “only viewers 18 and over can watch your LIVE” if you turn it on. Once a user turns on the setting, TikTok will notify him that LIVE videos tagged 18+ will still be removed if they violate community guidelines. TikTok recently said that it is developing a system that can block certain types of content from being accessed by teenagers. ,Also read: Tiktok provided data of US citizens to China? “We’ve heard directly from our creators that they sometimes just want to reach a specific older audience. So, as an example, maybe they’re making a comedy that has adult humor, or boring workplace tips like that. Presenting what are relevant to adults only. Or maybe they’re talking about very difficult life experiences,” said Tracey Elizabeth, TikTok’s US Head of Issue Policy.

“We are testing ways to help better empower creators to reach the target audience for their specific content,” he added. ,Also read: Android Users Alert! New malware lets users subscribe to premium services without knowing,

The company said that the new 18+ restriction setting for live streams, however, is not intended to promote adult content on the platform and will be strictly investigated.
