Time for flirtation is over, Congress should marry Prashant Kishor

What has changed in the last one year? There was no discussion on election strategist Prashant Kishor joining the Congress in 2021. But the assembly elections since then have highlighted that the party is no longer able to garner anti-incumbency votes against the BJP even in the states, not to mention how it is being beaten by regional parties as well.

Unable to oust the Gandhi family from power, even if they are no longer able to win elections for the party, the Congress needs a desperate infusion of some new energy, and right now Kishor is knocking on its door with only three bags full. Huh.

Prashant Kishor’s proposal: Congress President to a Gandhi, a non-Gandhi Vice President

Can he prove to be as disappointing as 2017 in Uttar Pradesh? Can the Gandhi family really live up to the national narrative they will judge? Can they line up the party elders who fight behind them? There is already widespread opposition to his inclusion as a functionary. But against all these doubts, 1) Kishor’s CV has several impressive successes and 2) Congress is completely out of better options. The party desperately needs his command over big data management and polling voter preferences. The continued failures of his own political strategy make it an airtight affair to experiment with Kishor’s skills to replay his tired playbook.
