Tiruchi Range Police takes action against goat thieves, recovers 60 stolen animals

The police action comes in the wake of the recent murder of a special sub-inspector in Pudukottai district, allegedly by goat thieves.

Police personnel in Tiruchi range, which includes Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Karur, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts, have registered 12 cases related to theft of goats over the past few days and arrested four people in connection with the crime.

Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, V. Balakrishnan directed formation of a four-member special police team headed by a sub-inspector of police at Tiruchi range level to nab those involved in the theft of goats. Instructions have also been given to the concerned district police personnel to initiate action against those involved in such crimes.

A total of 12 cases related to theft of goats were registered from November 23 to 28, a press release from the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range said here on Monday. Of these, three cases were registered. Tiruchi Rural Police. Eight cases were registered in Pudukottai district and one in Karur district. Sixty stolen goats worth ₹3 lakh were recovered from the arrested persons and handed over to the respective owners through courts.

The arrested people were sent on remand.

The special team constituted at Tiruchi range level has been directed to keep a constant vigil on those who steal goats and initiate action against them.

The police action comes in the wake of the recent murder of a special police sub-inspector of Navalpat police station in Tiruchi district, who was hacked to death by a trio in neighboring Pudukottai district, when he chased them on a motorbike during the night after finding them. They have a stolen goat.
