Tirupattur District Police on Saturday handed over 170 lost and found mobile phones to their owners.

Superintendent of Police (SP) KS Balakrishnan returned the phones to their owners. Tirupattur District Cyber ​​Crime Police recovered phones worth Rs 40.80 lakh.

This was the third initiative of its kind since the formation of the Cyber ​​Crime Police Station at the SP office in Tirupattur in March 2021. On two occasions between 2021 and 2022, the police returned 263 mobile phones with a total value of over Rs 50 lakh. , to their owners.

Before the formation of the cyber crime cell, the missing phones were traced and returned to the owners once in six months. But the restoration was delayed due to the pandemic. “Now, we are ensuring that the lost mobile phones are returned to their owners in less time. Many of the owners are from Bengaluru, Chennai and Tiruvarur. They are passengers,” Mr. Balakrishnan said.

A five-member team of Cybercrime police station traced the phones on the basis of complaints lodged in all the 11 law and order stations of the district.

Police said a round-the-clock helpline number (944-2992526) is available for residents to alert the cybercrime team about the loss of a mobile phone.
