Form of words:

New Delhi: Senior Trinamool Congress leader Sukhendu Shekhar Ray on Tuesday said the Trinamool Congress cannot wait indefinitely to bring the opposition parties under one umbrella against the BJP.

In a press briefing soon after newly inducted Sushmita Dev quit Congress, Ray took oath as TMC Rajya Sabha MP, Ray said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had approached political parties to form an alliance, but no No response received.

“For forging an alliance with all other parties, a proposal was made by none other than the TMC president. She met (Congress President) Sonia Gandhi and many other leaders.

“We waited for six months, but there was no response or initiative from either side. So we have gone ahead and decided to expand our base. Perhaps the Congress is too busy with its internal issues,” Ray said.

He said it would be up to the Congress and other parties whether they want to come under one umbrella or go it alone.
