TMC Minister’s film dropped at Goa Film Festival; This is politics, says Bratya Basu

TMC leader Bratya Basu, who is also a film producer, alleged that his film, Dictionary, which was initially shortlisted for screening at the 52nd International Film Festival, Goa, which was scheduled to take place from November 20 to 29, has been postponed. Was left on weak grounds at the last minute.

Basu alleges that his film was among the 25 films that were part of the screening package and has now been brought down to 24 films after being disqualified from the dictionary.

Basu’s film, which has already received international acclaim, stars Abir Chatterjee and another TMC leader Nusrat Jahan in lead roles. Basu alleges that this was done under political consideration because of his TMC identity.

Basu said, “This film has not been given permission for purely political reasons.”

TMC MP and actress Nusrat Jahan said, ‘If it is stopped due to political reasons, then we will definitely oppose it.

Now, TMC feels that politics plays a role even in the cultural fraternity and hence, popular films like Dictionary have been put on hold.

The letter written by the Film Federation of India states that there are some spelling mistakes so it is not allowed.

BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, “Many people oppose us, it does not mean that these things will happen. They are making it an issue unnecessarily.”
