Raising the issue of high LPG cost during a debate on price hike in Lok Sabha, TMC member Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Monday took a bite into the raw brinjal he brought with him and said he wondered if the government wanted “we eat raw vegetables”. .

As opposition members questioned the government’s seriousness in tackling the problem of inflation, Dastidar said that those who have got cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme do not have money to refill.

The Trinamool Congress MP said she wanted to hear the views of a minister who had opposed the hike in prices of LPG cylinders when the BJP was in opposition.

He said that sometimes he wonders if “the government bravely wants us to eat raw vegetables” and eat a little bit of brinjal, which would make even his own party MPs happy.

“The price of LPG cylinder has been increased four times in the last few months… from Rs 600 to Rs 1,100 now,” he said. TMC MP said that cylinder rates should be reduced.
