TMC will not save anyone in Nadia ‘gang rape’ case, says party MP Mohua Moitra

Condemning the alleged gang rape of a girl in West Bengal’s Nadia district, Trinamool Congress MP Mohua Moitra on Tuesday said that even consensual sex with a minor is considered rape as per law and the ruling The team will not protect anyone. Moitra, who went to meet the girl’s family in Hanskhali, was quoted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as saying that the minor, and the son of a local Trinamool Congress leader, was in love and wondered if she was pregnant.

“A case has been registered under the POCSO Act. We know that consensual sex with a minor is also an offense as per law. It is a criminal act and there is no question of saving anyone. It is unfair to blame the party. Since the accused has been arrested.” The girl was killed after she was allegedly gang-raped at a birthday party at the local TMC leader’s residence on April 5. He was bleeding profusely on his return home and that night his parents lodged a police complaint. 10 April.

The Krishnanagar MP said, “Whatever happened is a condemnable incident. The police is probing the matter, and some arrests have already been made. The identity of those arrested is that they are accused. Their political identity Doesn’t matter.” Apart from the son of the TMC leader, the police have also arrested a friend of his. “The party and the government have zero tolerance towards such incidents. The party neither supports such incidents nor will stand with the culprits,” Moitra said. Opposition parties, including the BJP, termed his remarks as insensitive and aimed to save the culprits. The girl’s mother had told reporters on Sunday that from the sequence of events and after talking to people present at the party, “we are sure that she was gang-raped by the accused and his friends. She also alleged that A group of people forcibly raped and took the minor’s body for cremation even before the death certificate was issued.
