Traffic affected due to dug up road in KR Puram; Police repairs it by tweeting for help

Several calls to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to repair the road at KR Puram on Thursday prompted the traffic police to tweet to the civic body’s chief commissioner, Tushar Giri Nath. unanswered.

The drivers were seen struggling to cross the road. “Some simple precautionary measures and a plan should be in place while undertaking any construction work. Otherwise, it causes a lot of inconvenience to commuters,” said Namratha B, a resident of Ayyappanagar.

The KR Puram traffic police then tweeted, “No one from BBMP is answering our calls. Please send someone to plug this pothole sir.” A few hours later in another tweet, he wrote, “Somehow “We have managed to temporarily close the hole by filling it with earth. Some concrete is required to fix the hole completely and permanently.”

It was later learned that the problem was caused by the work done by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESSCOM). According to KR Puram BBMP officials, the BWSSB was installing the water pipe for the past few days and while installing the pipe, the construction vehicle damaged the power cable of BESCOM, causing heavy traffic jam on Hoodi Main Road and residents living nearby Done. The main road faced power crisis for hours.

Mahadevapura MLA Arvind Limbavali visited the spot on Thursday and asked the concerned authorities to repair the road at the earliest. talking to HinduGeetha, Assistant Engineer, Devasandra, Bescom said, “While the construction work was going on, a JCB damaged the electric wire. It rained last night and due to this damage there was a power failure. BESCOM has been working since last night to close the dug out area.”

Raghavendra, Assistant Engineer, BBMP Mahadevpura said that the department is coordinating and getting the work completed soon.
