Traffic jam, water logging in parts of Delhi amid heavy rains

The Meteorological Office has predicted moderate rain with the sky being generally cloudy on Saturday.

New Delhi:

Traffic disruptions were reported from different parts of the national capital on Saturday due to rain in the city.

Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to plan their travel accordingly.

Waterlogging was also reported from many parts of the city.

Delhi Traffic Police tweeted, “Traffic on carriageway from Zakhira to Anand Parvat is affected due to waterlogging near Anand Parbat red beacon on New Rohtak Road. Commuters are advised to avoid the stretch.”

Commuters also took to Twitter to post updates about traffic congestion in some parts of the city.

Heavy traffic jam was reported from the Zakhira flyover. Bahadurgarh on Najafgarh Road and Raja Garden Chowk to Dhaula Kuan Loop on Ring Road had a similar view.

A passenger tweeted that there was heavy traffic on the Dhaula Kuan section from Naraina to Moti Bagh.

Another passenger said that the red beacon at Punjabi Bagh Chowk was not working and there is heavy traffic jam due to rain and waterlogging.

Some of them said that the traffic is heavy near Anand Vihar, Red Fort, Mathur Road and Chhawla areas. There was also a jam at Azad Bazar Red Light Chowk.

A senior police officer said that adequate traffic police personnel have been deployed on the ground to ensure smooth movement of traffic in the city.

Another user said that there was heavy traffic from Gurgaon border towards Delhi on National Highway-8.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy sky with normal rain on Saturday.
