Transfer news: Brentford signs goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha on free transfer

Brentford have signed Albanian goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha on a free transfer, the Premier League club said on Thursday. The 27-year-old, who left Italian side Lazio in June after his contract expired, has signed a four-year deal with the club.

Stracosha played 208 matches for the Rome-based club and won both the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup twice with Lazio.

“I’m glad we were able to sign a top goalscorer. He’s been number one in Lazio for a long time, which is pretty impressive. He’s played in Serie A and European competition and will bring that experience with him.” Manager Thomas Frank said.

Brentford FC goalkeeper coach Manu Sotello said: “I am very pleased that Thomas has joined us. With him in our goalkeepers association, we will have a great competition that will be a step forward for everyone. Thomas is an experienced goalkeeper who has played a key role in Serie A. He will take on 26-year-old Spain international David Rae, who has been Brentford’s first choice since 2019.

Brentford also announced the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Yehor Yarmoluk, subject to international sanction. Yehor joins Ukrainian side SC Dnipro-1 for an undisclosed fee and has signed a three-year contract with a club option of an additional year.

Upon Yehore’s arrival in west London, Director of Football Phil Giles said: “Yehore is a player of great potential and we are delighted to welcome him to Brentford.

“He is a really advanced midfield player who can play even higher. He is someone who can build, assist and is very technically sound. He will bring a dynamic element to the team, as well as a lot of power.
