Trinamool leader poses with gun inside government office, picture goes viral

Mrinalini Mandal Maity has been in controversies time and again.

Malda, West Bengal:

The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress of promoting a culture of violence after a picture of a senior Trinamool Congress leader with a gun inside a government office went viral. The TMC has also reprimanded the leader and demanded an inquiry to determine whether the gun was real or a toy. Mrinalini Mandal Maiti, chairperson of the old Malda Panchayat Samiti and a senior leader of TMC’s Mahila Mandal in Malda district, can be seen posing with a gun while sitting on a government official’s chair in the BDO office.

“This is the culture of Trinamool. If police probe is done, they will find more than just pistols. They will find guns, bombs and even AK-47s with these people. I am sure Mamata Banerjee have also seen the picture but they will not take any action,” said BJP Malda district president Gobind Chandra Mandal.

The Trinamool leadership is also uncomfortable as it comes on a day when party chief and state chief minister Mamata Banerjee was visiting the district. Trinamool Congress state general secretary Krishnandu Narayan Chowdhury said that he thinks it is a real gun but the police should investigate the incident. “It is damaging the image of the leader,” he said.

Ms. Maiti has repeatedly been in controversies. Several allegations have been made against her husband including beating up a government employee.

Ms Maiti was contacted for a response on the matter, but declined to comment.
