Trinamool’s Mission Meghalaya started in 2004

The Trinamool Congress secured 12 MLAs in Meghalaya in the evening coup on November 24. This was not the first such attempt for the Mamata Banerjee-led party in the northeastern hill state.

In 2004 almost overnight was the first Trinamool MLA from Meghalaya. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Agitok Sangma won from Tura constituency that year after leaving the Nationalist Congress Party and joining the Trinamool.

The person he defeated was Mukul M. Sangma, a former Congress veteran and now the Trinamool’s Meghalaya unit president.

But he parted ways with Ms Banerjee and left the Trinamool a year later.

The Trinamool Congress is now the principal opposition party in Meghalaya, and its main rival is the National People’s Party (NPP) which was founded by the late Mr. Sangma. His son, Konrad K. Sangma is the chief minister leading the coalition government. BJP is one of the constituents of this government.

Mr. Mukul Sangma, who left for Kolkata on Sunday to meet Ms. Banerjee and other senior leaders, dismissed the theory that the Trinamool was too Bengal or Bengali-centric which could not be accepted in Meghalaya, especially the Khasi and Jaintia Hills. in areas.

“Our supporters and friends in Meghalaya have said that we have taken a good step, as TMC is the only party that can take on the BJP. We know we can now serve people better and ensure that their hopes and aspirations are met.
