Turkish woman, 20, arrested after posing as pediatrician for over a year

Many of us want to pursue our passion as a career but often fail. But have you ever come across someone who pretended to be something they are not in terms of profession? A woman, who had been posing as a doctor for more than a year, was arrested after investigators found she did not have any medical qualifications to become a doctor.

Identified as Ayse Ozkiraz, she was working at a Turkish state hospital in Serkezköy, 109.4 kilometers from Istanbul. The Daily Star reported that she was posing as a pediatrician when colleagues became suspicious of her lack of medical knowledge and began asking about her background.

Ozkiraz, 20, claimed she graduated from Istanbul University’s Çapa Medical School, but hospital staff sensed something was wrong with her response, leading them to question her about standard medical procedures. When the girl started giving evasive and contradictory answers, it was reported to the managers.

The hospital administration began calling the police, who searched the 20-year-old’s home and found several fake university cards, fake doctor’s ID cards and fake degrees. Özkiraz had no education after high school. A collection of surgical drapes and ID cards were seized from several hospitals. Özkiraz had also assured his family that he had graduated from Çapa Medical School.

Özkiraz said in a statement, “When I was a student in high school, my family wanted me to go to medical school. They believed in me and thought I would make good marks. When I graduated from high school, I took the university exam”.

“However, I failed. In order not to lose my family’s faith in me, I told my mother, stepfather and stepbrothers that I [had a place at] Capa Medical Faculty so that there are no problems at home. I prepared the documents and showed them to my family,” she concluded.
