Twitter will revise its user verification process, Elon Musk said in a tweet on Sunday, just days after taking over one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.

“The entire verification process is being refined right now,” Musk said in his tweet without giving further details.

The technology newspaper platformer reported on Sunday, citing two people familiar with the matter, that Twitter is considering charging a fee for the iconic blue check mark that confirms the identity of its account holder.

According to the report, if the project goes ahead, users will have to subscribe to Twitter Blue for $4.99 per month or lose their “Verified” badge.

The Tesla Inc CEO hasn’t made a final decision and the project is yet to be scrapped but according to the platformer it is likely that the verification will become part of Twitter Blue.

Separately, The Verge reported on Sunday that Twitter will increase the subscription price for Twitter Blue, which lets users verify users, from $4.99 per month to $19.99 per month, citing internal correspondence they see.

Twitter Blue was launched in June last year as the platform’s first subscription service, offering “exclusive access to premium features” on a monthly subscription basis, including the option to edit tweets.

The feature to edit Tweets was also made available earlier this month when Musk launched a Twitter poll in April asking millions of his followers if they wanted an edit button. More than 70% had said yes.

Musk has also requested that logged out users who visit Twitter’s site be redirected to the Explore page, which shows trending tweets, according to a separate Verge report on Sunday citing employees who were familiar with the matter. .
