Twitter’s new official tag for verified accounts is live: All the details

Twitter is releasing a new official tag for verified accounts on Wednesday. If you go to your Twitter feed, you will see that there is a blue tick and an official tag at the bottom of businesses, media houses, government handles or even well-known personalities. This icon looks like double checking the account and verifying its authenticity.

Esther Crawford from Twitter has said that with the revamped Twitter Blue subscription product, which will allow paid users to carry blue check marks on their accounts, it will not actually verify the identities of users.

The change has been talked about by Elon Musk, who is set to overhaul the platform with a number of ideas, including bringing Twitter Blue subscriptions to more countries. India are also part of the plans. The new feature on Twitter looks like this:

Crawford previously stated that all Twitter accounts that were previously verified with a blue check mark would not receive the “official” label and the label is not available for purchase.

Accounts receiving the official label include governments, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some other public figures, he tweeted.

The official tag seems like an unnecessary add-on which may take some time to come to regular users on the platform. Twitter is taking Twitter Verified (Blue Tick) as part of its Blue Service package, for which people in select countries will be charged $8 per month.

Twitter is busy improving its global team, including in India, where Elon Musk & Company has laid off about 90 percent of its employees from the product, engineering and marketing teams. Twitter is also cutting its workforce globally, and those that have been retained are being pushed to roll out new features in a quick time.
