Two day meeting on Energy Storage Systems held

A two-day meeting with industry experts, researchers and academicians was held at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras to discuss energy storage systems such as batteries, fuel cells and super capacitors.

The National Conference on Energy Technologies was organized in collaboration with the International Advanced Research Center for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials, Chennai and the Chennai Chapter of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. The objective of the meeting was to exchange ideas and develop mechanisms for research and industry collaboration.

Anil Kakodkar, former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India, spoke on the role of hydrogen energy and called for an Indian solution. The director of the institute, V. Kamkoti, called for an energy audit to save electricity. He spoke on the need for grid security and data security.

Ashok Jhunjhunwala, President, IIT-Madras Incubation Cell and Research Park, said that India ranks 103rd among countries contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, far behind developed countries that contribute the most to global warming. He called for a special policy that would help develop a commercially viable strategy in green technologies.
