Around a dozen prominent political activists, including two former National Conference MLAs, joined the BJP here on Sunday, with its Jammu and Kashmir unit president Ravinder Raina exuding confidence of forming the next government in the union territory on his own.

BJP national general secretary and in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir Tarun Chugh and Raina welcomed the newcomers to the party along with hundreds of their supporters in the presence of senior leaders including Devendra Singh Rana and SS Salathia, who recently joined the saffron party. . Team.

Rana, the younger brother of Union minister Jitendra Singh and provincial president of the National Conference, along with senior party colleague and former minister Salathia, quit his party on October 10 and both joined the BJP in Delhi the next day. Most of those who joined the BJP, including both former MLAs Prem Sagar Aziz and Kamal Arora, are considered close to Rana.

Aziz, former deputy mayor Dharamvir Singh Jamwal, provincial secretary Chaudhary Arshid, Samba district president Mohinder Gupta, corporator Ashok Manhas and senior activists Somnath Khajura and Sardar Sucha Singh had recently resigned from the National Conference in support of Rana.

Arora, who won the assembly elections in the 2014 elections on a National Conference ticket, had joined his party in March last year. He joined the BJP along with his party’s district president Rinku Bhardwaj.

The leaders were welcomed with massive sloganeering at the BJP party headquarters, where the joining ceremony was held, with their supporters wearing a variety of turbans representing different cultures, including Dogras, Sikhs, Gurjars and Bakarwals.

“New entrants – whether from the National Conference, Congress or PDP – are welcome with an open heart and they will be given due respect and rightful status without any discrimination, ending the decades-long injustice when the Prime Minister rejected discrimination. Article 370 in August 2019 and provided de facto independence to J&K,” Chugh said.

He said that the doors of BJP are open to all those who want to serve the people and work hard to strengthen the nationalist forces and the country. In his address, the Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief said his party is getting bigger with each passing day as people from all walks of life believe in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas’.

Expressing satisfaction over the participation of prominent leaders of various parties, he said, “After the assembly elections, the BJP is going to form the next government on its own and the chief minister will be of our party.” We are making all efforts to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir so that we all become a part of India’s development and progress under the leadership of the Prime Minister.”

“No country can tolerate anti-national activities and so why should India tolerate such an act? If you are Indian, you have to respect and respect the country,” he said, adding, “India is a strong democracy but that does not mean that we will tolerate anti-national activities”.
