An encounter broke out in Bomai area of ​​Sopore town on Wednesday night after security forces launched a cordon and search operation, a police official said.

He said the security personnel killed two terrorists in the operation. A civilian was also injured in the firing.

A senior police officer said the terrorists were linked to the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, adding that both were planning attacks on civilians.

“The slain Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were classified as Mohammad Rafi of Sopore and Qaiser Ashraf of Pulwama. Terrorist Rafi was booked under PSA twice earlier. Both were involved in several terror crime cases. As per the inputs they were planning to attack civilians in Sopore area, tweeted ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
