Two vehicles carrying cattle seriously injured

Two persons were seriously injured when a pickup vehicle allegedly carrying stolen cattle rammed into it near Bejajavalli in Teerthahalli taluk on Tuesday.

The brothers, 23-year-old Kiran and 24-year-old Sharath, from Kittanagadde village, spotted the vehicle allegedly carrying the stolen cattle at Melige village and chased it on their two-wheeler. It is being told that before the driver could escape, the pickup vehicle hit him.

The injured were taken to a hospital in Tirthahalli and from there they were taken to Manipal for treatment. After this incident, the relatives of the injured and Bajrang Dal workers gathered at Tirthahalli. He demanded that the state government take strict action against cattle thieves and those who transport cattle illegally.

Home Minister Araga Gyanendra, who is also an MLA from Tirthahalli, met the injured people and assured the residents of the town that the government would punish the cattle thieves.

The minister told presspersons that the law banning cow slaughter has come into force and will be implemented. “I have directed the police to take action against those involved in the case. The injured are being treated in Manipal.”
