Royal Enfield’s sales in the domestic market have been badly hit and have declined by 52 per cent as compared to sales in the same month a year ago.

Royal Enfield Monthly sales of 33,529 motorcycles have been registered in September 2021 as against 60,331 units sold in September 2020 a year ago. The company says sales numbers are still good despite the global semiconductor shortage, which has impacted production across all brands. Royal Enfield said in a statement that global shortage of semiconductor chips and the recent lockdown in some source markets have impacted sales for September. The situation improved towards the end of the month, and parts availability is expected to start from Q3 FY 2022.

In the domestic market, Royal Enfield recorded sales of 27,233 units in September 2021, with a 52 per cent drop in volumes from September 2020, when Royal Enfield shipped 56,200 units. Exports though remain strong, with September 2021 exports registering a healthy 52 per cent growth despite global semiconductor shortages. Royal Enfield sold 6,296 motorcycles in September 2021 as compared to 4,131 motorcycles in September 2020. Overall sales declined by 44 per cent, to 33,529 motorcycles, from 60,331 motorcycles in the same month a year ago.

In the year-on-year period (April to September 2021), exports grew by 222 per cent, from 11,443 units in the year-ago period to 36,797 units in the corresponding period in the current year. Domestic sales grew 7 per cent to 2,10,270 units from 1,96,635 units in this year’s period from April to September 2021.
