U-19 World Cup-winning star Harshita Basu returns to Kolkata to grand welcome, eyes WPL

Harshita was overjoyed and surprised by the warm reception she received on her return and said that her next target is to play in the upcoming WPL.

India’s U19 World Cup-winning player Hrishita Basu was accorded a grand welcome at the airport on her return to Kolkata on Wednesday. The 19-year-old star, who created history by being a part of the U-19 T20 World Cup winning team, received a rousing welcome at the airport. Basu was accompanied by his teammate Titas Sadhu, who took two wickets for just six runs in his four overs in the final against England.

The two young stars were welcomed Play Bengal minister Arup Biswas and CAB chief Snehasish Ganguly at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.

Biswas congratulated the Women in Blue for their historic performance in the Under-19 T20 World Cup.

“They are the daughters of the country. I am so proud of them. I congratulate Shafali Verma and the entire team. Three Bengal players and one bowling coach contributed for the country. cm Mamata Banerjee Congratulated them and announced awards for them,” said Biswas.

While the CAB president feels that the historic win will mark a revolution in Indian women’s cricket.

“Winning a WC at any level is fantastic and difficult. But it is a revolution for Bengal cricket and Indian cricket. We hope that families who have daughters will come forward and encourage them. I can see something big happening in Indian cricket,” said Snehasish.

Cricket The Bengal association has already announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh each to T20 World Cup winning trio Tita Sadhu, Richa Ghosh and Harshita Basu by the state cricket board.

Harshita was overjoyed and surprised by the warm reception she received on her return and said that her next target is to play in the upcoming WPL.

“I am surprised, I didn’t expect such a reception at all. Winning the World Cup is a special feeling,” said Harshita India today.

“It is a special feeling to win the World Cup and then celebrate it like this. Thanks to all of you. My next target is the Women’s Premier League and after that I want to make my debut for the Indian women’s senior cricket team.”
