Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena to organize ‘loyalty’ Dahi Handi event outside party headquarters in Mumbai

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena on Wednesday announced to organize a “Nishtha” (loyalty) Dahi Handi program on the occasion of Janmashtami outside the party headquarters in Dadar, Mumbai on August 19 (Friday). The announcement came after the BJP decided to organize Dahi Handi Mahotsav at Jambori Maidan in Worli on the same day.

The handi event of Shiv Sena will be organized by Yuva Sena, which will be led by Aaditya Thackeray, who is the MLA from Worli.

Shiv Sena said on Twitter, “Loyalty Dahi Handi! Celebration of loyalty, joy of Dahihandi!”

For many years, NCP leader Sachin Ahir, who later joined the Shiv Sena, used to organize Dahi Handi events at Jambori Maidan, but stopped doing so after a Supreme Court order in 2015. Later, Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Shinde started organizing the event. However, now BJP chief Ashish Shelar booked the first spot this year, forcing the Uddhav-led army to shift to the second spot for Dahi Handi.

times of India Shelar said that the saffron party is going to organize Dahi Handi programs at over 300 places in Mumbai city. “We do not believe in any stronghold. As a coalition candidate, Aaditya Thackeray himself has won the votes of the BJP. BJP is organizing more than 300 Dahi Haaths across Mumbai and we have given insurance cover to more than 200 mandals. Jamboree Maidan is just a teaser, the entire film is yet to come out,” he was quoted as saying.

On its part, the Shiv Sena has cited the renovation of Jambori Maidan as one of the reasons for shifting it to a new location for this year’s Dahi Handi event.

In June, the Shiv Sena faced its worst crisis, when 40 out of 55 MLAs rebelled against the party leadership and formed an alliance with rebel leader Eknath Shinde, who is now the CM. Out of 18 Lok Sabha MPs from Maharashtra, the rebel MLAs group led by Shinde enjoys the support of 12. Elections to the wealth-rich BMC, which was under Shiv Sena’s control for more than two decades, are due later this year.

The Thackeray-led Shiv Sena is locked in a political tussle with the Shinde camp, which claims to be Bal Thackeray’s “parent” Shiv Sena. The Shinde faction has also claimed the Shiv Sena’s election symbol- “bow and arrow” and the matter is pending before Parliament. Election commission.
